Fall Harvest

Snapshot

Harry & David isn’t just a company. It’s a community. We’ve been in the Rogue Valley for over 75 years. If you live here, chances are that you or someone you know has, does or will work here. That means a lot to us. And it means a lot to our consumer, too.

Because our kids go to school together, because we see our office mates at the gym and the supermarket, we’re all accountable for doing just a little bit more. If Dominic builds a product that everyone loves, he’ll hear about it at the gas station. If Scott sends out a catalog that looks better than ever, someone will mention it at the mall.

Harry & David is our home. We want people to love it just as much as we do.So come on in, stay a while. Get to know us. We’re really nice people from Oregon. Who make really great gourmet gifts.

employee testimonials

Begin with a line or phrase that tells the consumer something about our company that is an interesting fact or is relevant to the corresponding product or category. Complete the Story with more facts or a fun twist that lets our employees’ personality shine.

700,000 TREES IN OUR ORCHARDS

get inspected each week. I think it’s important to take a good look at the fruit personally. And walking over 1,800 acres keeps the Moose Much® Popcorn gut away. That snack is addicting.

- Matt B, Orchard Forman

A SECRET BLEND OF CHOCOLATE

is the best for our homemade truffles. Everyone wants to know what the secret is. I tell them it has something to do with Finland. Then I laugh.

- Charlie D, Head Chocolatier

SO BIG YOU COULD EAT IT WITH A SPOON

That’s what Harry and David used to say. So I tried it. All the juice made the spoon really slippery and it took a lot longer to eat. Seems easier to just take a big bite. Instant gratification. That’s my saying.

- Heather F, Copywriter

ROLLED OFF THE BRANCH BY HAND

is the best way to pick a Royal Riviera® Pear. Then you have to place it just so into a special canvas bag to make sure the fruit doesn’t bruise. I wear mine slung low over my hips, it’s more comfortable that way. And it helps keep my pants up.

- Jim S, Orchard Picker for over 20 years

Easter

The kid in you

You may be a grownup on the outside, but inside you’re a kid. You light up when someone says nice things about you. Your heart sinks when you reach for the last truffle. Deep down, you want to have fun, and be treated fairly. We all do. Because there’s a kid in all of us.

Our Easter Campaign is an invitation for that kid to come out and play. Think Easter egg hunts and Jump rope on store signs and catalog spreads. Fonts, colors and copy are lighthearted and friendly. Employee testimonials take a youthful turn, as we spotlight children of the Harry & David community.

This company was founded by two grownups who were eternally young at heart. Today, a childlike wonder inspires us to create amazing gifts that make people smile. So really we’re just following in their footsteps. Like a good game of hopscotch. With pears.

Employee testimonials

We use employee testimonials to deepen the connection between the consumer and our brand. And in this case, to show off our kids.

Easter testimonials feature photos of employee’s kids playing outdoors. Through quotes, parents share what their kids enjoy most about Easter and Spring. Each quote begins with a line of phrase that tells the consumer something interesting about our company or is relevant to the corresponding product or category. Then we complete the story more facts or a fun twist.

I CHEAT AND GIVE NATHAN EXTRA CANDY AFTER THE EASTER EGG HUNT.

It’s tough when you’re the littlest of four. His brothers and sister have the yard picked clean before he even knows it’s started.

- David H, Associate Creative Director

EASTER IS THE ONLY DAY ABBIE GETS CUPCAKES FOR BREAKFAST.

This year I joined her. If you’ve never had cupcakes with OJ, I recommend it.

- Cameron G, Confections Manager

I FILL THE EASTER EGGS WITH MOOSE MUCH

then he isn’t as disappointed when they’re easy to find. It’s hard to hid eggs from a kid who’s smarter than you. Don’t tell him I said that.

- Kari G, Catalog Merchant

 Mother’s Day

True Story

Mom has sacrificed too much to be put through another sappy Mother’s Day. She helped you claw your way through puberty, forgave you for the dining room window incident, held you when your fist love turned out to be dud. And that was just your teens. So let’s give her what she deserves. What all the moms in your life deserve. A campaign that’s fresh, real and fun. Just like them.

Employee quotes, formerly known as testimonials, are the campaign focal point. Each quote is a real-life experience on of us had with our mom growing up. Coupled with the quote is an actual photo from that time in our life. Yes, that may mean a photo of an eighth grade you in braces and coke bottle glasses, standing next to Mom with her feathered hair and bellbottom jeans.

In sharing these special moments in our lives, we’re inviting our customer to relieve theirs. We’re showing how much moms mean to us, all the while deepening the connection between our brand and those who experience it.

Think of it as a collective tip of the hat to moms. Lord knows they’ve earned it.

Employee quotes

Our Mother’s Day quotes are actual experience we’ve had with our moms throughout our lives. Accompanying each quite is a photo of the featured employee with Mom.

This use of employee quotes and photos is on brand and fun. It allows our personalities to shine through and deepens our connection to our customers. It’s also an unwritten invitation for customers to reflect and share their own stories of Mom. Quotes will begin with a compelling line or phrase to capture attention and pull customers in to each story.

I CUT MOM’S DRESS IN HALF

to make a fair godmother costume. She’s yet to let me live that down. Especially since the costume didn’t really work out.

- Amara W, Copywriter

A LOVE OF CHOCOLATE RUNS IN THE FAMILY

Fortunately, so does running.

- Michelle C, Group Creative Director

MOM NEVER KNEW I HID THE BROCCOLI

under the table. I’m sending her a big gift basket with pears instead of confessing. There’s no reason she needs to know.

- Julie K, Creative Director

THESE DAYS I SURPRISE MOM

with a gift tower and a rose. Back when I liked to hide in the kitchen cupboards and jump out when she walked by.

- Susan S, Production Manager

 Valentine’s Day

A sweet affair

On Valentine’s Day there are two types of love. There’s the love you feel for another human being. And then there’s the love you feel for sweets. It can be strong. A bit uncontrollable at times. But that’s what we’re here for.

This Valentine’s Day, let’s embrace our desire for delicious treats with playful love notes that lust after our gourmet gifts. Ones that say “My heart belongs to chocolate. I mean you.” And “You can have my heart. But not my pears.”

After all, our gifts are filled with the most delectable treats. And that’s something to fall in love with.
